American Whitetail Cube Hybrid and Broadhead Insert

Post by NCmtns380 »

Both target and broadhead insert finally arrived via Fedex after being stuck in Newton NC for two weeks due to " sketchy " weather. Definately going to get the 380 sighted in at last for spring turkey in NC. Slick Trick Grizz Tricks won't arrive till thursday so it looks like field points will be the first to test out the target. Once I get it sighted in I'll post some reviews of the target. Hopefully this will hold up a bit better than the block target I used on my exomax and first 380 Matrix. I liked the idea of a broadhead insert that replaced the bag section and could just flip the target on its side and only shoot broadheads into one section instead of tearing up the entire target.

Just got a quick semi sight in at 10 yards inside my house due to serious rain in my area for right now. So far with 15 shots with field points total penetration was only about 11" and very easy to remove diablo bolts with 100 grain field tips. Hopefully I can get outside and get the 20 yard sight in since my grizz tricks should be on thursday and I can try out the broadhead insert as well. I may pick up some toxic broadheads for spring turkey but back when I was hunting NH,NY and VT for spring turkey with the vertical bow the Muzzy's really did the trick on the gobblers. A bit different hunting in the NC mtns especially getting to hunt all day and in April no less. Been hearing quite a few gobbles on the state land near me so we'll see how this goes. I'll post some more on the target but as of right now it's working much better than my old block target with the field points but the real test will be the broadhead insert.......

So far the cube hybrid is holding up well at the 20 yard sight in and just finishing up the 30 yard test. Been able to use just hands with a slight tug to get the bolts free but the real test will be the Slick Trick Grizz Trick 2's into the broadhead insert. If I can get the 30 yard sight in I may just switch out for a broadhead to see how close they are at 20 yards since this is the first time trying out Slick Tricks for Turkey and Deer. Will post an update soon.....

Just finished with the slick tricks at 30 yards and definately happy with the results. A bit low compared to the field tips but 1/8" cant be too picky. A little tweak on the speed dial and she's ready for turkeys and deer. As for the broadhead insert it definitely does the job but be prepared to use some arrow lube to get them out. I may mess with cutting down the backside foam since for crossbows I don't see the need for the extra length of foam. At 30 yards the diablos are only getting 9" penetration but the insert definately saves tearing up the target. The target is a bit on the heavy side but you won't have to worry about it moving off the stand with the 380 but I'm sure the 405's guys with the 125 grain bolts will move it a bit more.

Great choice in broadheads. I only used the regular slicks from my compound to gain penetration and reduce drift. I'm sure the mags will work great from your M380. Also, the toxics are the broadheads I've used for the past two seasons and I love them. Just be aware that they will chew up and destroy your target very quickly if you plan on using them just to practice with broadheads. Just use them to check your poi at 20yards, 40yards, 50yards and stop when you see they're good. I have the benefit of my club providing old 3D targets for broadhead testing or the toxics would've eaten my rhinoblock by now. Good luck with the gobblers.
