Broadhead accuracy help!!
Okay I'm shooting dead nuts at the bullseye with my fields points all day long! I screwed on a bolt cutter broadhead and I'm way off my mark! It's obvious that broadheads don't fly like field points! So what now? Do I go back to ten/twenty yards and set the scope again with the broadheads? Any help is greatly appreciated thank you!

Re: Broadhead accuracy help!!
Can you be a little more specific please. Where exactly are you hitting with your broadheads in relation to your field points and at what ranges?......also, filling out your profile may be helpful in helping you.

Re: Broadhead accuracy help!!
Are you using 150 grn field points?
I am no expert at this, and I'm sure one will be along shortly. lol
My guess would be that you may have to re-sight your bow with the broad heads before hunting with them.
I used 100 grn fixed blades(Coyote) with my 310 last year and they flew the same as my field 100 grn field tips on my executioners.
This year I will be trying the 125 grn RamCats on my zombies that I shoot 125 grn field tips outa my 330. Hopefully they will fly the same when I sacrifice one to find out.

I'm shooting my archery target at 40 yards with an axiom. I'm using excalibur firebolts. I'm accurate with 150 gr. Excalibur field points. When I fire the 150 gr bolt cutters I'm about six inches below the bullseye

Re: Broadhead accuracy help!!
This is why I shoot expandables. I have never shot a fixed blade that flew like a field tip.
Exomax, Equinox, Matrix 380 and now a Scorpyd Aculeus
Re: Broadhead accuracy help!!
If the broadheads hold a tight group you can adjust your scope and hunt with them. If they don't shoot good groups it's time to try another brand/style of broadhead.

Re: Broadhead accuracy help!!
Some do, I use fixed blades and I'll be using expandables this year too. But help me understand your logic. Once hunting season starts, you shoot broadheads at animals and not field tips so who cares how a field tip shoots during hunting season, they don't matter anymore. As long as a broadhead will group, penetrate and perform as it's designed, who cares how it flies in relation to a field tip?Livtahunt wrote:This is why I shoot expandables. Re: Broadhead accuracy help!!
expandable broadheads are not recommended for lower poundage bows such as the axiom, and my matrix 310. The problem is that the force required to deploy them slows them down and you don't get very good penetration. As long as you are getting good groups I would suggest sighting in with your broadheads before you hunt. Next weekend I will be checking out my RamCats to see how they fly from my 330 and will use them for hunting this year. Last year I tried some muzzy trocar broadheads and they flew the same as my field tips. I have mostly used Coyote brand fixed blades for the last 20 years with great results, but the guy retired about 7 years ago and stopped making them. I do still have a half dozen new ones left yet

Re: Broadhead accuracy help!!
The first question you need to ask yourself is.
Is it the broadhead or the arrow that has changed your poi.
I have found at times depending which vane is down you could see the same change
with your poi especally at 40 yds.
Therefore I always tune each and every arrow as to which vane down gives the best poi grouping in relationship to each other with my chosen field point first. Mark the vane which performs the best in the down position then go from there.
Then if you find there is a change to the poi between your chosen broadhead and field point. Then yes you need to start back at 20 to set up.
In my case I make a note of the adjustment required and when I want to switch between the broadheads back to my field points I simply reverse dail in the adjustment .

This is sound advice. Your distances should line up after tweaking the scope!vixenmaster wrote:As said if'en yer groups be good then jus sight in the BH's n go hunt

Well said. Shoot all year with field points, switch to Boltcutters for hunting season. Saves mucho wear and tear on the expensive Rinehart target.racking up points wrote:Some do, I use fixed blades and I'll be using expandables this year too. But help me understand your logic. Try the ramcats or slick trick magnums.
My 355 didn't like the bolt cutters either.
Now I'm shooting slick trick magnums
And rocket hammerheads and trauma BH.
All my BH are shooting like fp.
