Opening day Csharkie and I headed into our stands shortly before sunrise. We spooked a buck on the way in, and he snorted enough that I thought our morning was over even before it began. We continued anyway and spent the morning in our tree platforms. Didn't see a thing all morning, until I was packing up to meet for lunch. When I uncocked the emag, a buck and a doe jumped up from where they had bedded, about 60 yards away from my stand. We came back in the afternoon and set up in different locations. I sat in a groundblind. Csharkie was going to sit in a tree stand, but decided to change his mind and use another groundblind we had set up. Around 4:30 I spotted a nice doe walking toward me, within 10 yards of the tree stand Scharkie had decided not to use. The doe got within 35 - 40 yards of me, and she had her head down where she couldn't see me. I had a full broadside and decided to take the shot. Those of you who read the thread about how we got our forum names may remember I use stump because something always seems to go wrong, and I've been stumped every time I've had a chance to harvest a deer. Surprise surprise, my bolt deflected off a little twig and embedded in a tree about 10 feet from where I was sitting. Bye bye doe. The only bright side was that a turkey roosted in a tree a few yards from me. Of course, I think he almost fell off the tree laughing at me.
The next morning I set up in a tree stand on another property I have permission to hunt. Spooked a doe on the way in but got in my stand about 7. From about 7:30 - 8:00 I played hide and seek with a buck, but he never came close to giving me a shot. However, at 8 a nice doe walked out 23 yards from my stand. I am very happy to say the drought is over. I have my first xbow deer. I had a nice 300 yard drag to the road, but it was well worth it. She been cut, wrapped and is now in my freezer. Although I had planned on changing my forum name, I've grown attached to it and will continue to use stump.
Sorry for the long winded story, but after all the missed opportunities, I'm going to savour this for a while.

Good eatin' for you now Stump. Congratulations!!!!! Savour the harvest indeed. You've earned it.
You can still use "Stump", now just change how you got the name.....like....I was hiding behind a stump when I shot that fat doe.....or.....that buck was dumber than a stump to think I couldn't hit him...or......something like that.
Enjoy the success Stump.
