Quills for Grizzly.

Post by BobbyR »

Would there be any downfall to using the Excalibur Quills in my Grizzly? I noticed that my Diablos go to the stirrup, plus, I have a friend that offered 1 doz. quills to me for free. I was going to buy BE zombies when my 8 diablos were gone, but free arrows are hard to turn down. I gave him 4 free boxes of 7mm Rem. Mag. ammo in 2013, so he is trying to return the favor I guess. He sold his micro and went back to shooting his Mission 360.

Use 125 grain heads, get them cut if needed. Good luck. If you need some cut, I'll do it for you, you pay shipping.

his question is an interesting one though, any reason that you can't use the factory quills in the grizzly?

I cut my bolts for the Matrix 355 to 17" the stock Quills are 16.5" so I would use at least 125 grain heads, but they will work fine. For a safety precaution make sure your foot with boot cannot get in under the broadheads you choose to use!!!

Thanks guys, but after seeing the package of Big Johns custom arrows in another post, I would love to have some of those. I can't get my foot in the stirrup xcal. I have the quills now, but it is too close to hunting season for me to go messing with what I have shooting excellent right now. I am shooting Diablos with 125 grain Jak Hammers, and if I do my part, my Grizzly shoots like it can see for itself. I will switch arrows after bow season. Thanks again guys.

Big John makes excellent arrows, and you will be very happy with his work. If you can hit an apple at 40 yards this close to the season, don't mess around! It's like changing the sauce on a pizza in a taste off!
Go get your trophy, them mess with the recipe!

I actually can hit a 3 inch circle every time at 50 off my knees. The area that I hunt, 30 yards is a long shot before the leaves fall. I am quite happy with my setup, and I won't change until bow season ends, then I will use the quills, but those Big Johns are calling to me. Thanks guys.

Ok well I put my money where my mouth is and I test fired some Diablos and Quills out of my Grizzly at a laser verified 40 yards and this is what I came up with...The diablos greatly outshot the Quills. Maybe excalibur understands something I don't?

Is it just me or are the Quills entering the target at a funny angle? What's going on there. I was shooting from a bench, so my shooting position hadn't changed.

I also tried the same shot but with my Custom 15.5'' Zombies which fly great out of the Grizzly too.

looks like your getting some fishtaleing in flight. i'd stick with the diablos, when I first got my grizzly I couldn't get my diablos to fly good.. finally I put a 125 grain on an its shooting lights out

Strange that my Diablos fly good, no? I use 100GR heads exclusively.
