A good day

A good day
Today was the first day I was able to get out and hunt and I saw a doe in the first two hours. The problem was she was moving pretty quick and got by my shooting lane before I could do anything. So I took off after her. I ran around the far side of the hill in the hope of getting her on the far side. I sat at the edge of the hill for a least half an hour and nothing. So I slowly moved forward and there she was looking right at me about 75 yards away, busted. She took off back over the hill. Well I took a chance and headed to an opening I figured she would cross sooner or later. By this time the wind was against me and I was sweating bullets not to mention my heart pounding like a hammer in my head. Twenty minutes later down the hill she comes. Unfortunately this hill is wooded and she is about fifty yards away. She starts to get closer and I think maybe I might pull this off and she winds me. Gone like a shot. So I didn't get her but I'll tell you playing cat and mouse will a doe for an hour or so sure is fun although it takes a lot out of you.
Shakky,
Sounds like a day to remember.
Keep getting that close and one will offer a shot some day.

Good advice! I think snoring actually calls them in some times Many a time I've relaxed with my eyes closed for a moment, only to open them to find a deer looking at me with puzzlement in their eyesSit tight and let 'em come to you. It's more relaxing that way!

Shakky, here is a suggestion that you can try. When the deer approaches your shooting lane, judge its speed and yell loudly to make it stop in the lane. Yell "HEY!" or "STOP!", and it will stop, but only for a moment. That is when you shoot. And of course it must be in range. Unless it is a deer that is running totally spooked, this usually works. I have found that it does not work on coyotes, though. They immediately put it in high gear without stopping.
"Thumper. My mom was playing with one of those
guys that dress like a tree. Had him running around a hill".
Couldn't resist Shawn.
