OT Kinda - Police search for clues after man dies from arrow

WATERLOO REGION — Waterloo Regional Police are seeking a person of interest in connection with the death of a Kitchener man killed by an arrow.

Police released a composite image on Wednesday evening of a man believed to have been in the area of Margaret Avenue on Monday.

The man is described as: male, with an olive complexion, six-feet tall, 40 to 50 years old, muscular build, dark eyes, bushy dark eyebrows, larger nose, and longer dark hair past his ears. He was wearing khaki pants, a dark shirt, hiker-style shoes and carrying a dark coloured backpack.

Police believe the man may have information to assist the investigators.

"We are dedicating as many resources as we can," police Chief Bryan Larkin said earlier Wednesday in an interview about the investigation.

"We are relentless," he said. "Our homicide investigators are tenacious."

Larkin said officers have been canvassing the Margaret Avenue neighbourhood and area each day and combed through the woods in nearby Breithaupt Park since the death of Michael Frederick Gibbon.

On Wednesday morning, officers stopped more than 250 drivers who commute through the area daily and may have seen something out of the ordinary.

"The reality is somebody knows something. We need someone to come forward," Larkin said.

Gibbon, 60, was walking along Margaret Avenue at about 7 a.m. when he was shot with an arrow and collapsed on the front lawn of a home. He lived around the corner from the home on Guelph Street.

Police say Gibbon died of the wound and are treating his death as a homicide.

Gibbon's family say they are devastated by the death and can't imagine how long their brother suffered as he was going for his usual morning walk.

Larkin said the public needs to be patient in homicide investigations, particularly during the first 72 hours which are critical to obtaining information.

Larkin said police have a "community safety plan" in place which involves putting more officers in the neighbourhood and in other highly visible areas with Thanksgiving weekend coming up and the launch of the annual Oktoberfest celebrations.

"We ought not to run in fear. There is safety in numbers. People should continue to come on to the streets and continue to walk their dogs," he said.

"We can not let fear overtake how we do business," he said.

Larkin said there remains many unanswered questions and this is troubling for police and the community.

"As the chief of police, my appeal is to anybody that has the smallest piece of information do not feel bad, please call us," he said.

"To the individual involved in this, we don't know if it was accidental. We are encouraging the person who may be involved to please come forward," he said.

So far Deathmerchant they the authorities are keeping that information . My feelings by what the media has said . Is it was a field tipped arrow . Because he was transported to the hospital before he succumb to the wound .

From what I understand, the arrow was still in the man when they found him - not a pass-through. Not sure if that means a lower poundage bow was used, but it might.

Not good for the sport. Someone not sleeping to easy at night wondering if there is going to be a knocking at the door. Accidents do happen. Think they said there was some sorta park there. Wonder if an arrow missed a target and kept travelling and hit the man. We may never know for awhile, but secrets are hard to keep for the rest of your life. Tell one person and that knock on the door can happen. Lets just hope for the family's sake someone steps forward and they may. May take a couple days to get a lawyer before one steps forward.

Using the "reasoning" of at least one of the leading candidates for the democrat (intentionally not capitalized) nominee for President of the USA, the crossbow company needs to be held accountable and sued out of existence. To be consistent, the arrow shaft company, vane, nock, insert, and field point manufacturers need sued also. AND Boo or Danny Miller for their complicity in this crime for making the string. Also , the vehicle manufacturer that the shooter may have used to get the shooter to get where the shooting occured.
I hope you Canadians haven't lost your minds to the degree than many US citizens have.

No need for it to be off topic. Most crossbow guys will tell you that a bow is a bow, an arrow is an arrow, this article does not veer from that point.
