Scope bite
Well it finally happened. Up in the tree stand with my 12 year old son this morning to show him the ropes on shooting a deer with a crossbow. Along comes Mr. Timberwolf who decides to pause completely broadside 17 yards from the tree stand. I let loose with the bolt as he was looking up at us and felt the recoil of the bow as the scope hit me square in the face.
Damm I said "this thing kicks like my 30-06"
The bolt buried itself just between the legs of the wolf and in the ground underneath it. How could I have missed such an easy shot I said to myself as I retrieved it stuck in the ground with no blood on it.
Then I realized what had just happened. In my haste, I got too close to the tree supporting my stand and the right limb on my Exomag wacked it when I took the shot.
I am now sporting a small cut on the top of my nose!
Lesson learned!

Ouch.....Have not had the pleasure of a Weaver Bite from my x-bow yet. Any damage to your bow GP?
I remember way back when I fired my dad's 375 H&H for the first time approx 4-5 minutes after I pulled the trigger I was on route to the then Port Hope Hospital for a little needle & thread work!! Of course my dad had tried to warn me but at the age of 15 I was sure I knew everything and what I did not know was not important!!!
Regards,
Robin

blood trail
A buddy of mine, my boy, and myself were hunting wild hog in Texas. My buddy was nagging me 'cause I had not shot a hog after two days hard hunting. He went out that evening in a spot I told him about. Sure enough a nice bore came out just after sundown and he took a shot at him with a burrowed 30-06. It busted him good right between the eyes. The hog had only been about 60 yards away so he went to trackin'. It was near dark so there was my buddy looking for a bloot trail in the dark with a flashlight. He got to the spot where he thought the hog was and he didn't see anything, but upon further reveiw sure enough he found some fresh blood. As he tracked he noticed that it went nowhere but where he had been. Finally he realized it was his own blood he was tracking. We all had a pretty good laugh that evening and he had a pretty good cut for his efforts, but no hog.
