kills per arrow ratio
Hey Guys
I know this time of year we start going through deer season withdrawal. Thought maybe this would be a good subject to bring up at the end of season each year.
How many deer have you taken with the same bolt?
I bought some Zombie Slayers from Danny Miller. So far I've taken two with the same one.

Re: kills per arrow ratio
I had 3 with one , then when I was fine tuning for my hunt I shot it into my target just when a late summer thunder storm was coming up so I went inside till it passed . Went back out to my shooting table and let another one fly , Yep I forgot I already had one in the bullseye. Bye -Bye 3 time killer

I had one bolt kill two in the same day. I took a doe in the morning and my son took one in the afternoon with it. There are so may big rocks here that an arrow is lucky to see a second trip. In places with clean dirt I'm sure they'll have plenty of repeat killers.

Re: kills per arrow ratio
I have the same rock trouble, most my arrows only make it one trip. I have had a few that have made the trip twice
Re: kills per arrow ratio
I have reused bolts dozens of times over the years. In the end for most of them, its the fletchings that retire the bolts. Having them re-fletched is always a toss up since I don't do them myself...sometimes I bring a bunch in to have them done, other times I just toss them.
The occasional tree or rock ends their life after one shot, but usually they last for multiple years, multiple deer for me.

Re: kills per arrow ratio
The reason I learned how to make my own bolts this season and went back to aluminum is all too often I am one and done with a bolt. I blame Excalibur. With all that speed/power my last 10 kills have been pass thru's. And all of the big rocks here in New England are busting up my shafts!!bloodtrail wrote:Hey Guys

Guys I must say I'm kinda suprised. I thought for sure there would be one person to have four kills with the same bolt.
I'd rather be shooting my Excalibur.

Considering losses, probably about even Stephen.

One shot - I kill. I retire the bolts from each harvest and have started a display in my work room.

Re: kills per arrow ratio
Interesting question. I started hunting many moons ago w a regular crossbow shooting 100gr spitfires. Love those broad heads. Started w aluminum arras but kept bending and denting them in pratice. When the ACC (Beeman?) came out I swallowed hard and bought a dozen, loved em! For me they were way more durable. I painted yellow dots on my hunting broad head (used for first an usually only shot) and kept all my arrows numbered so #1 and yellow dot head were always matched up. Wanted to see how many deer I could harvest with the combo. Was just over 10 an made a shot on a small deer, it jumped the string big time and was whirling away when the arra hit. Hit the top of the leg joint at the hip an dropped him. Rolled over breaking the arra (rats, impressive string ended!). Recovered deer and arrow broke led bone an penetrated enough to finish him off but it wasn't pretty. Salvaged the broad head and got 3 more with it before a stone ended its career permanently. As far as the broad head goes I replaced MAYBE 6 individual blades in that time. I if slightly bent I just straightened them in vise w pliers, sharpened them on lanky sharpner and rebent the little button on the retaining clips with the tip of the arrow. Had a lot of fun with that experiment and took a number of years to complete! Had Equinox as first Xbow an harvested 2 deer, arrow fine but broardheads took a beating (100gr Spits), sold to my brother an bought 355, one small buck this year and will be able to reuse combo.
That's my story an I'm s-s-stickin to it!

Re: kills per arrow ratio
I have three kills on one of my GT arrows from my scorpyd. This year I ran aluminum arrows most of the time in my Matrix on a marshy property I was hunting because the ground usually eats them. I have some 2216 tipped with muzzys, built them for about $5 each including broadhead.

Wow! Impressive.
Let the record show Trigger1212 at 10 kills with one bolt.

Re: kills per arrow ratio
I have a couple/three arrows with 2 kills on them in the same season. They are still in use but I don't keep track of the arrows from one season to the next. I've lost a couple due to ground level pass throughs but have otherwise never had an arrow break on/in a hit deer.

Re: kills per arrow ratio
There was times when I use to keep spent arrows from kills and mounted them in a display. Then I started getting people telling me they were getting a couple Deer with each arrow and was it okay? I told them to inspect them for cracks or issues, and if good, go ahead a re-shoot as many as you want! But, then I wanted to start doing the same thing. So for about the last four or five years I've been trying to see how many I could get up to per arrow.
Well...., Best I've got is three! My issue is trying to find my arrows afterwards when I shoot into Bogs and swamp water areas. Even with Lumenoks on them, once they go down deep on a pass thru, into that stuff you cant even see the light!
So it's Three for me.
