405 brace height?

405 brace height?
Had a 405 serviced last year for cracked limbs. Girl at Excalibur replaced whole riser/limbs assembly and installed new string free of charge. I've noticed that with new string brace height basically doubled. Asked about it and was told that they've been shortened the string in order to minimize limb stress when firing. Left the string installed for couple of months to stretch a bit (never fired the crossbow with it yet) before removing at the end of season. Just installed it back and my brace height sits at 1 3/4" . My concern is that when I cock the crossbow limbs would have to bend more then they did before.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
Bought this crossbow used from a forum members and never used it yet. First time I tried to cock it last year limbs cracked. Want to try and use it this season.

Re: 405 brace height?
1 1/8". On my other crossbows I keep it at 1/8".
My concern is cocking. The way i see it tips of the limbs would have to travel further back in order to engage latches. Technically it's the same as making rail longer. Wouldn't do that on 405.

Re: 405 brace height?
bd 400 has a 2" brace height that's what they recommend for advertised speed. BUT the riser on the mega 405 is forward more. you mite have a bd 400 string which is shorter. mega 405 I had string was 1/4" off the bumbers
Re: 405 brace height?
As Flightattend would say, it won't hurt a thang You should want a 1/4" between the string and the bumpers when the string creep has slowed at a reasonable rate.

Shoot it about 20 times and check the BH again

Re: 405 brace height?
Right now it's 1 1/8" gap between string and bumpers. It would hardly ever touch bumpers when fired. That's why I am concerned if that string is too short. I wondered from beginning if that was wrong string they've installed.
Only way to get it closer to bumpers would be to unravel the string and that wouldn't be good idea.
Re: 405 brace height?
Not sure if this is related or not but I just purchased and installed a brand new string (excal 1992) on my Matrix 350LE. Side by side the new string seemed a lot shorter but I thought a few hundred shots would cause that.
Shot about 20 shots and left it cocked for 48hrs. It’s still resting a little over 1 1/8” from the bumpers.
Is it possible time and shots will result in another 1” stretch ?
Is there a downside to that additional inch of brace height?
Loss of speed or damage to limbs?

Your not going to hurt anything by shooting the bow the way it is.

How many turns did you put into the string when you installed it?Fazan wrote: ↑Sun Sep 09, 2018 9:09 pmRight now it's 1 1/8" gap between string and bumpers. Re: 405 brace height?
I haven't put any turns. Girl at Excalibur replaced limbs and riser and installed new string. I left it as it is for about two months and then just removed it on one side and put zip tie to keep it from unraveling. That's what I do at the end of season for all my crossbows.
Reinstalled strings for all of them couple days ago and want to sight them in and get ready for the season. Concern with 405 is if I should cock it the way it is right now, never mind shooting it.
New riser they've installed is machined. I can clearly see that. I don't know if that's why they use shorter string or girl just picked up the wrong string.

If it was me, I'd call Danny Miller. I think he comes back from his bear hunt this weekend.
