Rail Cleaning
Made it a habit to wipe down the Exomax rail with a soft cloth and silicone spray after each hunt. I have never put anything on it before and have been surprised how dirty it gets after a hunt.
Anyone else do this or use something else?

Re: Rail Cleaning
I spray a microfiber cloth with silicone and then flip the cloth over and rub it down with the dry side. The traces of silicone inbeded in the surface of the mainframe lets the debris slide off.

Re: Rail Cleaning
I'm a huge fan of a silicone spray it doesn't stick to the rail like wax or Lube does not collect debris

Re: Rail Cleaning
WD-40 makes a Water Resistant Silicone Lubricant Spray (https://www.walmart.com/ip/Silicone-Lubricant-Aerosol-Can-11-Oz-WD-40-SPECIALIST-300012/21838836). Would that be ok to use on the rails? I’m considering to switch from a rail lube.
Re: Rail Cleaning
The purpose of using silicone is not to act as a rail lube because the deck does not need lubricating. The purpose is to clean the deck and make it slippery enough and dry at the same time so that debris does not stick to the deck. I don't know what silicone content WD40 uses, so all you can do is try it.SummitSitter wrote: ↑Mon Oct 15, 2018 3:43 pmWD-40 makes a Water Resistant Silicone Lubricant Spray (https://www.walmart.com/ip/Silicone-Lubricant-Aerosol-Can-11-Oz-WD-40-SPECIALIST-300012/21838836). Re: Rail Cleaning
I used an 1800 grit wet/dry sandpaper to polish the top and corners of the rail where the string rides. I also rolled it onto a bolt shaft and did the groove. The anodizing is deeper than the mill marks that were on the rail that held the dirt and wax, and consequently frayed the string. Now the rail is glass smooth and doesn't hold dirt and the string stays looking like new money.
