Well I finally did it.

Well I finally did it.
Well I finally did it. Broke down and bought a crossbow. Was(am) a bow hunter for 30 yrs now but liberal Xbow seasons and sore shoulder has me thinking differently. From many posts I read over a couple months made me decide on a micro 355. I put air brakes on it( with no change in speed). I had a bunch of old 2216 so I cut them down. I like aluminum. I use FMJ with regular bow.
My question is...how are they for grouping at long distance. Haven’t tried them past 20yrds.
2216. 16.5”
Lumenoks
Blazer vanes
Aluminum insert. 28gr
125 gr tip
403 gr on scale. 345 FPS.

As said, you'll be amazed, and welcome to the forum. One HUGE difference with crossbow arrows over the vertical bow's arrows is the importance of squaring the ends especially the nock end. If you have a variation there, you'll see it in your accuracy without question.
It’s not the way you rock, it’s the way that you roll!

Well, I used a pipe cutter so I hope they are straight! I’ll find out when it warms up and I can shoot outside more.

Welcome to the club Redtail .
Good bow and accurate . Don`t shoot at the same spot twice . Impressive with your friends standing there but expensive after a bit .
Also it is helpful to put state or province of residing in the location spot until we get to know you . Sometimes there may be someone close by to give assistance for a problem .

Congratulations! You're going to love it. Those arrows cut down should be just fine for accuracy.

Welcome, but I don't think this will be square enough. Might want to pick up and arrow squaring tool and square both the nock and insert ends, especially if you plan to shoot fixed blades.

Re: Well I finally did it.
My experience with pipe cutters is limited, and I've never cut arrows. However, my experience with pipe cutters always had the end of the pipe being compressed (narrowed) swaged (?) somewhat. You definitely want the shaft ends to be square and it would be better if the sides were perfectly parallel right to the very end.

Re: Well I finally did it.
I doubt a pipe cutter will work. Arrows need to be sawn. Pipe cutters will crimp the edges and wont allow the inserts to fit.
I also doubt it will be squared enough and will make grouping very difficult.

Re: Well I finally did it.
Thanks for all the tips and the welcome! I used to use it on my full length arrows in the “old days” they seemed to fly well but 240fps may not have been fast enough to cause any issues. I have a buddy with a cut off saw but maybe I’ll buy the gear mentioned.
If I have any issues with flight and grouping that’s the 1st place I’ll look.
