"Heavy" Arrows from Black Eagle?
A few years ago I understood the BEA was trying to develop a heavier big game arrow. Something in the 14GPI range like an Easton FMJ or the GT NitroPRO. Anyone have any idea if this is moving forward? I like something above 500gr for hogs and bigger game and always have to go away from BEA to do it. Wish they made a good heavy arrow.............

At the ATA show I asked Randy fro BE about any development producing a heavier crossbow arrow and he said they looked into it but foresee no new arrow soon.
You can build the heavy arrow you desire by using the Firenock AeroConcept system.
Using the Firenock Brass AeroInsert, thread in add a weight of your choice, and add a Carbon Inner Tube inside a .300 Zombie shaft and you are going to have one carbon shaft over 500 gr.

GT Nitros have the same aditional weight idea. ANd that is what I did in the past. 16" GT Nitro @ 14GPI = 224, 60gr brass + 5-gr wt. = 110, 150gr BH, 6gr for feathers (or 18 for Blazers), and a NuFletch Igniter. Total is around 520 ish. I just think BEA arrows woudl be more consistent. The Aero concept is nice, just costly

My Micro 355 shoots really well and accurate with the AeroConcept double wall carbon arrows but not so much my Scorpyd DeathStalker with its semi rail less mainframe design.

With the Concept arrow, you won't be able to find a stronger more break resistant shaft.
Some people just like stepping on rakes

Re: "Heavy" Arrows from Black Eagle?
IMO it's not about the strength of the shaft on hogs. It's all about the weight and the momentum to punch through the shield, which can be up to 3/4" thick cartilage. And BH strength. Guys who have trouble with pigs are usually shooting their "deer setup" (400gr or under, maybe a mech head). My Zombie Slayer was strong enough to penetrate a boar's skull last year. He charged and I had no other shot. Went through the front and lodged in the back of the skull with a Slick Trick.

Re: "Heavy" Arrows from Black Eagle?
Norm, after trashing quite a few "good" arrows on hogs, I decided to "cull" my arrows and shoot all my junk up since most times the arrow doesn't seem to survive on hogs for some reason. I got rid of a few Firebolt etc. arrows and hogs don't tell the difference and if they are trashed so what. Just a different perspective I guess.
Re: "Heavy" Arrows from Black Eagle?
I wish hogs were huntable and available up here in Ontario like you guys have it down South.

I agree, but it would be nice if they would go away after the season too!

Re: "Heavy" Arrows from Black Eagle?
where are you gonna be in FL? Im in East Central FL on the coast.
Re: "Heavy" Arrows from Black Eagle?
I just checked the manpower schedule at work and that week has been booked already. A few co workers will likely be in Florida on vacation.
I might add that my favorite past hog hunts have been with fellow forum members here and etched into my mind.
No doubt you will enjoy yourself Keith.
Cheers!

Re: "Heavy" Arrows from Black Eagle?
Rather than go heavier how about smaller (thicker) diameter. May not need a 14gpi bolt but maybe a 11gpi micro diameter to get the same penetration of the heavier one. I was looking at Victory Archery's website and noticed their crossbow bolt the Voo Doo. It features a small diameter and thicker shaft. I did not see a flat nock so I called to inquire but the line was busy. I never got the chance to call them back; I will Monday and may try them if they have that option. I used micro diameter arrows with my compound, they penetrated great. A micro FMJ would be hard to beat for thick gamed animals. I shot 22 inch FMJ out of my 405 and they went deeper into my target than my 20 inch Zombies. I would like the micro bolt option for xbows from Black Eagle as well.
