Excalibur at the ATA Show..

Post by Woody Williams »

I stoppedr by the Excalibur booth at the ATA show in Indy today. I had a hard time getting to talk to Bill T. He was very busy and I didn't want to bother him when he was talking to customers. He finally got a ten minute break and we talked about a lot of things. Mostly crossbows and hunting. He and Kath are heading back down to Mexico the end of the month for another whitetail hunt. No they don't need someone to carry their bags - I've already asked..

Here is my recollection of what is going on..

Bill has simplified the Excalibur line up. My beloved ExoMag is gone and has been replaced by the Exocet 200. The Vixen is now available only in Deerhide Brown.

Basically all the top 3 bows are the same but just have different power strokes.

The Excalibur line up …..

ExoMax – 225# pull – 355fps – 16.5 power stroke – 6.5 pounds weight – overall length –39.5” – Arrow length 20” – Arrow weight 350 grain minimum –Realtree hardwoods finish – Dissipator bar

Exocet 200 - 200# pull – 330fps – 15.5 power stroke – 6.4 pounds weight – overall length –38.5” – Arrow length 20” – Arrow weight 350 grain minimum –Realtree hardwoods finish – Dissipator bar

Phoenix – 175# pull – 305fps – 14.0 power stroke – 6.3 pounds weight – overall length –37” – Arrow length 20” – Arrow weight 350 grain minimum –Realtree hardwoods finish – Dissipator bar

Vixen – 150# pull – 285ps – 14.0 power stroke – 6.3 pounds weight – overall length –37” – Arrow length 20” – Arrow weight 325 grain minimum –Deerhide Brown finish - NO dissipator bar

Very, very nice looking bows…

Bill and Kath have done it again.. :D

The display models they had at the ATA show .... are all models the "Kolorfusion" finish ?

I haven't been in any stores since the begining of the season .... I imagine all new models are the same camo but haven't seen them yet ...

Also were the Excal bows well recieved at the ATA Indy show ? I know their booth gets packed at the shows around here ...

How where the other xbow manf's represented ?

I'm curious which manf. has the biggest following in the USA ?

R.J. - "That Exocet sounds sweeeeeeeeet !"

WW - Yes, it is..

R.J. - The display models they had at the ATA show .... are all models the "Kolorfusion" finish ?"

WW - The top 3 are all in the "Kolorfusion" finish - Exomax, Exocet 200 and the Phoenix. The Vixen is in standard Deerhide Brown only.

R.J. - "Also were the Excal bows well recieved at the ATA Indy show ?'

WW- There was always someone in the booth with them. I had a hard time getting to even say "Howdy".

R.J. - "How where the other xbow manf's represented ?"

WW- All major crossbow manufacturers were represented.

R.J. - "I'm curious which manf. has the biggest following in the USA ?"

WW- I'm guessing, but I would say Horton. Most folks, especially bowhunters, are still hung up on the "compound " theory. They haven't seen the Excalbur light yet..

Bill and Excalibur has a nice little niche market with the very best crossbow made that just happens to be a recurve limbed crossbow. No one else can touch them in the recurve simplicity market.

I saw bowhunting celebrities galore at the show..

Bill and Kath Troubridge
Stan Potts
Bob Foulkrod
Tom Jennings
Pete Shepley
Chuck Adams
Jackie Bushman
Paul Meeks
David Blanton
Myles Keller
Jackie Caudell
Mark Drury
Terry Drury
And on and on and on..

There were more bowhunting celebrities than you can shake a stick at.

I even got to watch them make another "Block Party" commercial.

I've known Myles Keller for years and got to talk to him for quite awhile. He had some eye problems last year that was a result of his Golden Glove boxing in his younger days. It was getting to a point where he wasn't seeing very well put of his right eye. He had to do something for as he said," There isn't too much of a demand for blind bowhunters". To make a long story short he went to a clinic in Lousiana and they operated on his eye. It is now better than ever.

He then proceeded to arrow two more Pope and Young qualifiers last year. Both went 140 plus. He said he had a close enounter (but no cigar) with a 180 typical buck in Kansas.

I didn't see a whole lot of new and exciting equipment. It seemed like a lot of the same old stuff.

It was fun candy store as usual.. too bad it will be in Atlanta next year..

RJ Thats because its so much of a pain in the but for these type guys to cross the Border with there equipment, wether its a Product booth or a promotional booth.

Its too bad because alot of these guys are great people and treat every person out there like their own friend. It would make for a great sporting show here in Ontario, but it way to much hassle at the crossing for these guys for the visiting population of these type show we have here...BT

Hey, what's so bad about it being in Atlanta next year. Now some of us southern boys can have a better chance of making it there.

Just joking...

But it is just a tad too far for me to drive.. 3 hours vs 8 hours..

I think that is their idea in spreading it around.

It is still a "trade show" and about the only way the public can get in is with a retailer or a manufacturer.

If you can get the chance by all means go. It is a candy store..
