A "Different" Crossbow...

Post by Woody Williams »

It really doesn't shoot the direction the limbs are facing. It still shoots out of the front.

That gives them a longer power stroke. In this case they stated it was 19 1/2" as opposed to most crossbows at less than 16".

They also said that this crossbow was 98 pound pull and shot at 320 fps.

That is very questionable.

A bit on the unweildly side too.

The arrow is nocked on the string like a vertical bow.

It retails right at $1,000 USD.

The two fellows that put this together couldn't answer all my questions to my satisfaction. Mostly on how well it stood up to a lot of shooting,.

It looked like they rushed the three prototypes in order to get them ready for the ATA show.

Interesting concept though.

What it looks like to me Woody is a compound bow on its side, except for maybe the fact it shoots the opposite way. Neat idea though.

If the string (or cables) broke I would think the limbs might come back toward the shooter!!!!!!!

Looking at the photograph, it appears to me like the trigger is some distance ahead of the latch, along the lines of a "bull pup" design; maybe not as pronounced but enought that I assume the trigger is linked through some sort of connecting rod.

This usually doesn't make for best of trigger pulls/action. I wonder how this one's trigger is?

I think you are right about the bullpup trigger.

These fellows definetly didn't have their ducks in a row for this show..

Must have missed you Woody-I was there from tuesday to 1 PM today-I shot it too and the guy told me it was a heavy prototype. Nice trigger-accurate but I didn't like the balance

I liked the SWISS BOW-last year it had a suggested retail of say a PErazzi shotgun-now its down to 1195-(I won't give you the wholesale cost since it was probably not to be published) and its really nice-but as BIll T noted-it shoots nice for HOW LONG

the swissbow won't sell well in the US under their current plan of having dealers buy from them-customs duties and FET will drive the dealer cost WAY UP-they need a importer to do all that then it will sell-not to serious hunters but guys who love crossbows like me

the inverted bow still needs alot of work IMHO

the PHOENIX is going to be the bow for next year-ordered 5 for my shop and I will b uy one for 3d

the Tenpoint will soon price itself out of the market

GREAT LAKES/Darton looked GOOD though

Woody,

Be careful!!! It looks to me like that thing will shoot you straight in the eye! Even at "older than dirt" you're too young to die!!!

its a neat crossbow that has a lever to cock it with a small bow strung in a CATS Cradle pattern-allegedly shoots a 16 inch 22 series bolt at 370 fps

Swissbow I cost over 2600 US dealer
the newer one is far far less

has a grip safety like a colt 45.

very nice to shoot

getting one in the states is tough given I would have to pay import duties FET etc.

would buy one if they solved those problems

well made

Jim C. Thanks, that sure is some crossbow..Very, very interesting and sure has me enthralled :!: :D

Digger you have a point in going wrong.. with all the wheels, however I read where string change is not tooooo bad..Like Jim C. I would well, no fer sure like one...however the $$$$ is kinda a hold back fer this old man, ooops I mean young kid

As for the 370FPS, shucks Excalibur is up there at 350+FPS...a little larger in length and width..

The swisscrossbow looks mighty interesting! ...until you hear the price! The design goes back to the similarly designed 4 wheel compound vert bows that first came out many years ago. Stick that limb design on a conventional stock without the cranking device and you would get one very compact affordable compound crossbow! 16 1/2 inch width! WOW!

..or could you imagine a slightly wider width with longer power stoke? I'd guess speeds approaching 500 fps!...maybe more! 8) It only has an 8" power stroke now!
