I also misunderstood. I thought the book was furnished by a public school and the children asked to read it. I jumped the gun. The part about burning the book or stealing it was meant as a joke. I do not promote theft nor damage to anyones property. Sorry.
God Bless !!!!!!!!!

Butcher here,
Carl, I'm not talking about the book burnings of WWII. Of course that was a terrible thing. I consider the the all time classics, and material worth reading very sacred. And I feel this book is like the scandle papers, garbage. But there is no need to start name calling. Ignorant, under educated and a fool! I have read history books, and am a history buff. As I see it, I don't think "The Gnats of Knotty Pine" is going to make the classic list, just the trash can. If it makes everyone feel better, I'll edit my post, or better yet have it deleted.
I just feel it is a sorry time, when these people put out propaganda about a heritage I love, and others who hunt, think just becauce it is in a library, it should be treated differently. I just don't like this kind of material. Sorry I disagree. I am not a theif, or a vandal, don't burn books, or vandalize library books, ,and your right, you should not touch others property. But I'm not going to lie to anyone, and pretend I like it, just to please everyone on this forum either. Especially those who come out firing names. I'm sorry for others ignorance in other ways. By the way, TAC, I loved the pics of the deer you posted. Butcher

It is morally imperative to protect intellectual freedom. This freedom is central to a democracy.
The obvious alternative to banning books that you disagree with is to provide an alternative source of information, i.e educate.

I'd like to thank those who took the time to give me thier opinions. I haven't made up my mind what I'm going to do but I think I'm going to go to the Library and attempt to have the book removed. If hunters acted the way they are portrayed in the book they would be breaking the law. At least the way the law is writen in this province. IE shooting anything that moves, letting game meat spoil, etc. I'm going to bring a copy of the Ontario Hunting Regulations to the Library and see if I can educate.
My main problem with this book is not that it's anti-hunting but that it is directed at childern and totally misrepresents hunting. I believe adults should been able to read whatever they like and have the freedom to make up their own minds but childern need time to be able to choose for themselves. I'm not worried about my daughter but what about a child from a non-hunting family.

Didn't get the book banned but got it removed from general circulation. The childerns floor of the library has a section that deals with more adult issues such as greif, gang violence etc. An adult has to ask for a book on the topic for it to be released, childern can't get them. So an adult would have to go looking for an anti-hunting childerns book to find it. The person in charge of the childerns floor was very surprised by the content of the book and so had no problem putting it aside.

questionable book

Good for you Shakky. It is refreshing to see someone who when faced with an issue that struck a nerve was willing to take action. I believe hunters must stand up and be heard when faced with controversy rather than sitting in the shadows while smaller interest groups with loud mouths educate the public as to what a 'real' hunter is.
