Big Sky Antelope Country
Lucky enough to head back to big sky country to chase speed goats. Lots of water so waterhole hunting might be tough. I sat the blind over a waterhole for 3 days with no luck then decided to spot and stalk with a decoy but still too early in the rut and no aggressive bucks would commit . Weather showed hot for thursday of the week so decided to sit the blind again. Got in early and got settled for a long day. At about noon a doe and 3 fawns slowly approached the waterhole and eventually came down for a drink. They hung around in the field and at 3 two more does joined them. One started for the waterhole and her path would go by the blind at about 5 yards so I got back into the shadows so not to spook her. As I was waiting for her to walk by suddenly there was a flash of movement and the buck I had seen a few times came running up the water and started to drink broadside at 15 yards. Although he took me totally by suprise I was able to get my bow up and get off a shot ! He dove headlong into the pond and raced across it and out into the prairie . I could see a dark red stain on his side and knew it was a good hit. He ran agout 150 yards and then tipped over.
Lots of water this year hwy 90 flooded

Congratulations on your speed goat! I love Montana. You truly have to see it to appreciate why it's called BIG SKY COUNTRY.

What dies Pronghorn taste like? I’ve had whitetail, Moose, and Elk but never pronghorn or caribou.

I would say that Pronghorn antelope is right at the top of wild game meats for flavor .

Back in my "younger days" I use to hunt Sublette County, Wyoming quite a bit for Prairie Goats. They're just plain fun to hunt! I like that country. But it is a LONG WAY to drive!!Timbrhuntr wrote: ↑Sat Oct 12, 2019 9:52 amThese goats eat mostly alfalfa eat as good as some of the grain fed deer from home . I wish it wasn't so fat to travel or I'd just hunt them for eating lol
