I was a bit overwhelmed......

Post by Boltejector »

I have to admit this! I shot my new Exocet 200 last night, as far as cocking it is not even comparable to the Ten Point titan 165 lb draw I own, I am no small man and far from weak, but holy crap the fifth time cocking by hand about blew my o-ring! It is going to be alot of getting used to, I would imagine I should get the form down a bit before I whine, but holy hell it was easy the first 3 times and then embarassing the 4th and 5th. Think I may just buy a cocking device for the days I just feel like shooting target (15+) times. Should I opt for the Phoenix instead?

Hi Boltejector,
I just got my Exocet200 (love it already), but boy am I glad that I got the Exocet and not as I orginally intended the Exomax. However the rope cocking aid reduces cocking to being fairly easy. In fact I was surprised how easy.

Boltejector,

If you aren't using the rope cocking device - it will be all you need. Remember - it cuts the lift required in half, so based on what you've said - you will be comforterable. I have the 175# Exocet and I'm 5'7". It pulls my pucker string to try to cock it without the rope cocking device. Stick with your Exocet - you'll love it and you will have all the power you will ever want unless your going to hunt Elephant.

A friend just recieved his new EMag a few weeks back, he used to hunt/shoot with a Horton 175 lb. Hunter Elite.

We went to zero his scope and he could'nt even hit the target at 25 yards  I was pop'n them right in there every shot. We were cocking the bow by hand. I never thought about him not being in shape for the extra poundage and draw length of the EMag compared to the little Horton.

Turns out he was'nt cocking his bow consistently by hand. He started using the rope cocker and hit the bull every shot. :D

To get the most in accuracy that string has to be in the same spot every time.

I never expected not to reach the string with both hands at the same time, with the butt of the stock in the middle of my chest. I am very well not cocking it consistantly. Most must have this problem cause I am 6 feet.

I stand to the left  side when I cock my bow. That way if my foot ever slipped the bow will go to my right side and not my ribs, chest, chin or face.

If I cock by hand it is sitting in a chair shooting off a bench 99% of the time. I find it's far easier to cock the bow by hand sitting down, for me anyway's.
When hunting I always cock with the roap cocker standing up. For me theres no change in zero between hand cocking and a roap cocker.

I believe certain muscles get built up over a period of time that makes it a little easier to cock the bows. You'd be surprised how many big fellas can barley cock a 175 Exocet by hand, but let them shoot a few shots every day and after a few weeks they'd have no problem.

I am being quite humbled. I am 6ft 250 and workout everyday. Not to brag but I can bench 400lbs, yet this works totally different muscles. Talk about humbling!!!!!!!!

I'm 230 6'1". I do have a bad back but have very little problems cocking by hand. I still use the rope cocker because it centres the string every time.

I wouldn't want to do 3D cocking by hand.

yep its a bit surprizing..I have a Emag and I always use a cocking device..I know its not talked of highly but I also use it to uncock after a hunt. I have developed a good system and it works for me well...In the tree second shot situation..its no prob to cock by hand if i need to seems sitting in my climber makes it easyer than standing..my 2...congrats boltejecter on your xbow..

Thanks Hoss!
I now have to get used to the manual safety on the Exocet, versus the automatic safety on my Ten Point.
I figured the speed difference would be noticeable between the two, but there is not a whole lot of difference I am able to see. Shot 5 shots and robin hooded 1! I am incredibly amazed at the accuracy, but then again my other bow is nearly as good.

Boltejetor, use the rope cocking aid, it cut the pull by 50%. I have the Exomax and I'm 5' 6-1/2" tall. I 'll shoot that thing 20 times or more. :)

You stated that the butt is in the middle of your chest when you pull it back, if I envision this right that means you are trying to cock the bow only with your arms.
I find that if you get the butt closer to your stomach and bend over the bow more you can use your whole body not just your arms.
I'm 6'3" 200lbs. and have no problem loading 30 to 40 times per session, I think what I'm trying to say is it's all tecnique. sp?
