Yep, the old man is a real people person too from things I have heard about Jim. Good luck to them all.Hillcountry wrote: ↑Fri Feb 26, 2021 8:09 amNice! I like Jim Shockey’s hunting videos...he and his daughter do things right!

She is a real up and comer, and frankly has a HUGE social media following across every genre. Excal did real good on this move. She is probably the best influencer they could have out of everyone. She will bring people to the table that you didn't think we're even out there, guarantee it.
I don't know much about Eva Shockey, but she's been associated with Bowtech in the past. Since Bowtech owns Excalibur, it not surprising to see her endorse Excalibur crossbows.Hillcountry wrote: ↑Fri Feb 26, 2021 8:09 amNice! I can't think of anything that I own that was bought because of the influence of some celebrity type. Drury brother switched from PSE to Mathews recently. Who cares? None of those things interest me in the least. I do look at consumer reviews of products, and I take some stock in that.XB I GO wrote: ↑Mon Mar 01, 2021 12:50 pmI don't know. Most people my age are not following her. She is older and more "commercial" than other bloggers, YouTubers and hunting figures. Teenagers can't hunt something or somewhere expensive like Ms. Shockey seems to represent on TV. There are some younger people and ladies that hunt public land, DIY hunts and more affordable, realistic stuff that have a following. These people are able to grab attention and get an even bigger following if they are put out there. Kaitlyn Maus comes to mind. She has a YouTube and a Facebook (called Kaitlyn Maus outdoors). This girl is I think a college student. She hunts and films herself, mostly on public land and with archery. She would be a great crossbow ambassador.
No offense to Eva Shockey but I think she represents the married woman that wants someone to look up to. Also, a lot of people with money are into SCI and other record books that the Shockey brand emphasizes. There are not too many categories or places for crossbow entries. The people that follow the Shockey's are looking for big adventure, record class animals and commercialism.
Excalibur would be better off promoting how you can shoot a crossbow in most residential backyards with the whole family. Regular old deer hunting and other available game like hogs, bear or whatever depending on where you live. If people see that just about anyone can shoot a crossbow successfully without a lot of investment, no noise or recoil and super accuracy with a small skill level and learning curve - that would get someone's attention. More opportunities for kids and ladies, mobility impaired people right in their neighborhood, and doesn't need a ton of practice - that is convincing. From my perspective as a teenager, I think it might be a disservice to have a hunting "pop star", "icon" or "super model" as a brand ambassador for simpler stuff. Someone more realistic, down to earth, "regular" would be a better representative if the goal is to expand the number and type of people using Excalibur products and crossbows in general.
You bring up some valid points. I especially like the line about married women. Both my wife and her sister love Eva Shockey, you just pegged them to a T. Personally I don't really care either way, I deal with marketing all day everyday so it gets a little thin. But don't discount what a familiar face can do lol.XB I GO wrote: ↑Mon Mar 01, 2021 12:50 pmI don't know. Most people my age are not following her. But, there is a reason for marketing, and many other reasons inside that. One one hand you are correct, it does make sense to market to a younger generation, but only to the point that you can keep their attention for the years to come.
The reason why Eva Shockey represents a much broader scale than teenagers is money. And more money. Not true for everyone, and I'm not getting into anything other than marketing here, but most teenagers, regardless of who they follow are a) not buying crossbows and B) don't have any money.
Eva Shockey on the other hand represents a HUGE group of millenial buyers who are finding themselves often gamefully employed, or inheriting a windfall either now or in the near future. Which means, they have money. And crossbows aren't cheap. Further to that, if they don't have money, they do have credit. And the marketers don't care who's money your spending.
The other HUGE, but shrinking crowd, she represents by association of her father, are the boomers and everyone in between. Which also translates to money.
So while it's good practice to show a young up and comer how great Excal is, the teenagers are the largest minority in the crossbow buying population, which naturally will change, because don't forget... Right now, she is the young blood in the industry, but that doesn't last forever. So for right now, I do believe she is a good choice.
