Bow deer of 2021
Due to unforeseen events this year my scouting has been limited . I have got up to the bush a few times to scout and put a few cameras out .
So we finally got a nice frosty night . I awoke before my alarm in anticipation .
Got to the bush well ahead of time and started to dress . But as per first time out for the season I had forgot to pack a few things . So it was I have my bow , license , boots and camo . Nothing was going to dampen my spirits .
Began my walk in without a flashlight because the moon was so bright . I have about a kilometre and half walk in so was leaving myself lots of time . I got about 300-400 yards in when I came across the strong odour of deer . Then to my right a crashing happened . No snort .
Walked another 100 or so then the strong odour again .
Got to the creek and was greeted by the same smell again . This started to get my hopes up at least . There was deer in this chunk of woods .
When I got to the thicker piece of woods I was greeted to new blowdowns across my path in . I had to resort to using a green flashlight . But three times I had to use it I was greeted to running / crashing through the bush . Then the heart sinking blowing .
After that I made it to the stand without anymore noise from deer .
Because of the frost I was on guard constantly to the sound of leaves falling or squirrels hopping around .
A little after 8 I decided to give a few spaced out bleats . Then I heard crunching and twigs breaking . At first I thought it was a coyote coming through there because they are not a rare sight in that bush . Then it emerged out of the raspberry canes . I had promised right now not to shoot a doe with fawns . But when he started to tend to a scrape and a licking branch I knew it was not a doe .
I had mounted my little point and shoot camera on the bow set to video . So I turned it on away from him so the red light did not alarm him . I had range found a few spots so when he approached one of the holes I knew it was 22 yards . I was extremely happy to finally get video of a harvest .

The trailblazer broadhead cuts a 2 inch swath . When I shot him I watched the lumi-nock enter the ribcage with a smack . He left the scene belly down running hellbent through all obstacles in the way . He maybe made it 30-40 yards before making a lot of crashing .
When I got down the blood on initial contact was impressive . That is the arrow sticking n the tree with lumi-nock lit .
But the blood trail after even Ray Charles could have followed it .
I had called my brother to come help . He took all kinds of pictures and helped pull my deer out .
Hope this helps with those whom can not make it out .

Excellent!
Still trying to get one with my "bow"! It's been an odd season for me so far with zero opportunities. Keeping my chin up as it's just a matter of time...

A touch of frost has heightened your awareness and your heart steadily beats in anticipation. Your senses are suddenly alert to the movement on the forest floor and you realize that the moment of truth is at hand.
Re: Bow deer of 2021
Nothing like a nice, successful hunt! Congratulations. Seriously.
I was just thinking that we've had some injured or sick folks ask here for hunting reports with pictures so that they can enjoy a vicarious hunting experience. I've heard now that the same guys are complaining a bit.
They want to hear more about things that went wrong. You know, stuff like my arrow hit a branch and went right over a buck that was so big it makes the Hanson buck look like Bambi when he still had spots. Or, I just knew I shouldn't be eating beans before I had to sit quietly for hours on a tree stand. Stuff like that.
For the sake of those complainers, next time you smell deer three times on the way to your hunting spot, make up something. Tell them that when you got to your hunting spot, say that you discovered that the lid came off the bottle of DoePee that you had in your jacket pocket. It worked out great this hunt, but now nobody will let you sit beside them, even in church, and after awhile things get lonely.
Put a bit of misery in your success.
