Get your ducks in a row

Post by Boo »

Just a public service announcement  Look at all of your hunting equipment. Look at your bow and shoot it. You'll have enough time to correct or order. Think about a food plot and or bait. Walk your trails. Look at your permanent blinds. Look at your strings, broadheads and arrows. Get your permits/licences. Book your time off from work. Buy a bow! The better you plan, the better your season will be!

We have had alot of pre season preparedness threads posted in the past on this forum which are very very helpful.

Maybe someone might have some spare time to resurrect some of the older pre season and checklist threads here.

Post your pre season preparedness tips and lists.

Don't wait till the last minute to order your custom strings and arrows because said makers are busy hunting too.

Yes buy a new bow because your old bow will not be as successful at harvesting game this year . :eusa-dance:
But on a more serious note . If you need warranty work done that you noticed last season . Now is the time to do that . Not the weekend before opener . It seems to happen every year a person comes in panicking for a limb issue they knew about last December .
Also not as much of a problem anymore. But after confirming the sight-in of your older bow now do not put your bow back in your hot locked vehicle .

I'll agree...NOW is the time to get things in order!!
What's the old cliche', "He who hesitates is lost"? True.

It's the end of July and it's been raining A LOT here. Not normal for Texas.
Right-of-ways and trails are overgrown with weeds and brush. Last couple of days with rain permitting, we've been mowing.
Checking feeders and solar panels. Refreshening mineral sites. Clearing wasp nest out of permanent blinds, and "evicting" unwanted guest from said housing!
There's nothing like climbing into a dark blind early in the morning and finding out it's occupied by a family of Ring-tailed Cats!! They make a racoon look tame!! :wtf:

Time to get your bow out and give it a thorough "once over". And when you're done with that, do it again. Check all the nuts, bolts and fasteners. Don't forget to "check" your glass and your string!!
You fellows that live North of the Border, (in Canada), are very lucky. Y'all have Boo and Norman to handle your needs for strings and arrows. Both are Outstanding Individuals, and true artist at thier trade!!

And by all means, shoot your bow!! A LOT!!!

Here we start "Bow Season" September 30th. That's 60 plus days to get ready, right? Unfortunately, most will procrastinate, and wait until the 29th of September to check things out. And then like others have said, they'll PANIC!! I don't have enough time to get ready!! Well, Duh!!
Don't be the Grasshopper, be the Ant instead. Always Be Ready.

My tip:

For those mounting a new scope and using rings and bases out of the packaging.

All scope and base mount screws and tap holes contain manufacturing oil . This protects steel screws from rust during transport and storage in all types of environments.

This oil is NOT your friend and if said oil is left in the thread holes and on screws your scope WILL lossen all too soon leading to cursing and more cursing.

I've had people tell my they couldn't hit a cow in the behind at 25 y after their crossbow scopes vibrated loose.

Clean screws with alcohol using a paper towel till squeaky clean.

Cut a rectangle shape paper towel section 3/4" x 2.5" .
Saturate with alcohol and twist one corner and thread it through tap holes pulling/ twisting once or twice to clean.

Only the smallest amount of Loc Tite blue should be used to ensure future ease removing screws if required.

A better option is made by Vibra Tite called VC3.
The best fastener product the best gunsmith use on clean surfaces.

VC3 is easier to remove than Loc Tite blue with the same amount of fastener hold ability.

Last Saturday I was cutting a trail up a steep slope to a new stand location. While climbing over a pile of rocks, I slipped, fell backwards and severely tore my calf muscle. Ortho doctor put me in a boot for one month and is telling me it's going to take 2-3 months to fully heal. Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

^^^ Yikes , a calf tear will set you back a few steps.

You may be looking for good supportive boots in your near future to get out hunting.

Look into healing peptides BCP157 and TB500
to speed up recovery.. I know numerous people who have used the above after tendon surgery or after a tendon tear to facilitate recovery quicker.
