Which crossbow to order???Phoenix or Exocet 200

Post by johnjyb »

Hi Folks
Did my taxes up today and I have 1 big problem.I'm leaning towards the Exocet 200, but am still undecided if the Phoenix is going to be enough bow for what I'm going to be using it for. I will be almost exclusively using it for deer, although the turkey season might find me hugging an oak tree the odd sunday with my excalibur across my lap.
I first tried an older Vixen last fall, with the carved tips, and I was so impressed with that bow that I knew I needed my very own before next season.
I'm 6 foot 1", 210lbs so the 25 lbs difference shouldn't cause me any problems for cocking, and I've already decided on the VZ scope package, it's just which one to have it put on.And no, gettum both isn't an option at this time!!!! lol
Any thoughts,choices will be appreciated.
Thanks, John

Phoenix would be more than you need to hunt deer, but i would try the exocet because it's a bit longer, and with your size it could be more comfortable for you.

If deer and possibly turkey is mostly what you're going for, then maybe the Phoenix is all you need. It might be a little easier on strings, and target butts. My Exomag (200 lb.) buries the bolts almost to the vanes, using the Block target. Harder than hell to pull out. In fact I sold my target butt (Block) and took a $30.00 loss, and am going strictly with shrink wrap stuffed in a target bag. Why use overkill. But on the flip side you might one day go for Moose, Elk, and who knows maybe Buffalo   , so 25 lbs. wouldn't make much of a difference.

Flip a coin, heads its Exocet, tails its Phoenix, put it all in Gods hands. :D :D

Let me start by saying that I own three Excalibur (Exomag, Exocet, Phoenix). I'm only 5'7" and the one that I find fits me best is the Exocet.

With your size and height, I would say that the Phoenix would be a tad too small for you. You should definitely go with at least the Exocet 200. and should also consider the Max.

So I say forget the Max....go with the 200 but think you would find the Phoenix will fit ya just fine and take care of anything you would want to hunt. The Phoenix is going too be the NUMBER 1 seller... :D

Things go in cycles. Several months ago, it seemed, "everyone and his dog" couldn't get their hands on an Exomax fast enough. Recently, some of these some folks, realizing that with age, they're not the men they once were, are trying to unload "the fastest crossbow" just as fast.

Speedball it is a lot more xbow then the average man or women can use comfortable. For what it was made for it is one fine crossbow as all the excaliburs are and I have all most every model Excalibur made.

The Max is great IF you need that kind of POWER and if shooting the min. bolt and want 350 - 355+FPS for hunting. Will sure help if you are worried about string jump.

The new Exocet at 200# and shorter draw length is the better choice for most hunting needs. If you are in too hunting and 3-D shooting then I would go with the Phoenix as far as the new line of Excaliburs.

As you have noted in other posts the Max (a few) have all ready been in the re-sell stream for the above reasons. You may do a search and find some other reasons for a lesser Excalibur in draw weight. :D

Well folks, thanks for the input, but I am pretty well decided the Exocet is the way to go for now. Also, I was thinking today that if (read when)I get another crossbow, I will still have the Vixen as an option for a target and hunting bow!!! lol
Thanks, John
