Deer Cocaine...

Post by fletch »

Has anyone used this product and if so how successful were you in drawing bucks in to it? The owner of a local sports shop talks this stuff up like no tomorrow but I want some real feedback on this stuff. He said if I use it that I will never use any other bait or attractant again. Please post if anyone knows about this stuff. Thanks.

I have used it......couldn't say it's really a buck magnet......the deer used it at one location and ignored it at others.....I think the trick is to place it in a location that stays damp. The stuff is basically just calcium carbonate......

thanks for the reply. The other problem I see is the deer would come anytime not just during hunting hours. That where a timed feeder is nice but also expensive.

Hey Fletch
I built a timer feeder a couple of months back for about $150. Bought a feeder and solar panel from texas hunter products (they have several kits that include the battery and timer) Mounted it to a galvanized garbage can and used some camo paint. The timer has 9 programable times in it.

I thought of trying to build my own but was not sure where to get the proper parts or type of batteries. I looked at a cheapy but it did not look like it would last to long, squirrels would have it destroyed in about a day of finding it. Made of plastic.

I will take some pics of mine later and post them. I went to Home Depot and bought a galvanized garbage can and painted it. You will need to build a spreader bar to keep the can from squeezing together. I also re-enforced the mounting holes with fender washers and used stainless bolts and nuts instead of the screws that came with the kit. The feeder kit came from this site http://www.texashunterproducts.com/. Take a look at the kits link. They include the battery, timer, and all mounting hardware. I used the 12 volt system with a solar panel to keep the battery charged otherwize you will need to get a charger to charge your batteries. The batteries are motorcycle type with gell cell so they are maintenance free.

You can get varmit guards there also.
