bad opener for deer...good for bushytails

Post by ch312 »

here in sw ontario it was windy as heck which im assuming is why the deer werent moving...at least thats my excuse anyways

about an hour before dark the wind died down and i got the crap scared out of me. 7 turkey decided to roost in the tree infront of me. i guess they were about 20 yards behind my stand when they flew up and man was it loud  1 flew by about 10ft from me. didnt take long for them to notice me and take off.

i did see an awful lot of squirells today though. if i had my 17hmr i would have got my limit for sure. decided to try out a judo point fired from exomax today. squirell was standing 25 yards facing me. hit him square in the chest knocking him back about 16-18" into a tree pushing the judo point totally into the pine.

he didnt even twitch once  took about 10 minutes to dig out the judo point with a knife

in the end i wasnt really succesful hunting but it sure as hell beat stayin home with the girlfriend in the house!

Same here ch, More Squirrels than Deer. Reds, Grays, and Fox squirrels and chipmunks too. We had a swirling wind all day which really messed things up. Was good to be out there though.

I know what you mean about the turkeys. They sure are clumsy when they're flying up in the trees to roost. They scared the hell out of me too the first time I heard them.

my very first deer hunt, i was in a ground stand. just as the sun came up, about 30 turkeys dropped out of the roost, all at once. did i mention i was under the tree they were in? it sounded like a black hawk helicopter coming in too hot for a landing! my dad was a couple hundred yards away in a tree stand and said he was laughing about it all morning because he knew it must have really startled me! they are some ugly animals, but fun to watch when you are boredinthe stand.

Anyone help me out here. The only thing I've found harder to negotiate the hair from was a girl friend's stand on armpit and leg hair. Suggestions anyone.
