String Serving Wear

Post by Deer Dave »

Guys, I am curious on the amount of shots you get from your servings.

I have a Parker Terminator and I am on my second string after approx. 250-300 shots. I also noticed last night that my serving on my cables are loose and spreading and they need to be reserved (if possible) or replaced. I enjoy shooting my xbow , despite what the dealer told me ...that most xbow hunters only shoot their bow 25 times a year  I don't fall into that catagory.

I want a reliable, dependable ,worry free crossbow. I think it is time to get a Phoenix!!!

Excalibur owners and Ten Point owners please share your experience.

I am thinking of asking Santa for an Excalibur Phoenix for Christmas. :D

Thanks, Dave

As I have said before on this forum wax your string and serving with your wax then rub it in with a piece of leather, it warms the wax and it melts between the strands of the string and serving protecting the string from dampness and grit that can get between the fibers and and abrade them. I wax the strin every 30 - 40 shots.
Strings on my Vixens last about 400 shots and I get about 300 on the Paradox.

I have always used a tongue from an old shoe to apply wax to bow strings does melt in good , how long will serving last on an exomax that has been taken real good care of?

I don't have an Emax, but with the extra 50 lb over my Paradox I'd be happy to get 200 shots before having to restring or reserve.

I just got a Phenix and when I shoot it I get a faint 'burned rubber' smell. Is this related to what you are asking about? Is it normal? I have probably only fired about 30 times with this bow.

Hehe, that burned rubber smell is the wax...When you wax the string, you will smell it melting when you fire the crossbow.

The smell is from your bolt rubbing on the rail going down track at high speeds, this happens more with aluminum bolts than carbon, but carbon do give off an odor too.

Serving question

Post by exohuntr »

I was talking to a friend that builds vert. bowstrings at a local shop, and he said that if the serving on my excal kept loosening that I could push the serving together close as possible, and then take some super glue and put a light coat over it. He said this will keep the serving from seperating so quickly. Obviously you would need to remove the string first so that you did not get any glue on the rail. Has anyone ever tried this before? Is there any risk of harm to my bow? He said he does it all of the time on vert. bows, but I reminded him that the serving on a vert. does not travel down a rail each shot. If this works it may solve some of the serving problems alot of us are experiencing...Exohuntr

good point! I was told by someone on this forum about using plumbers teflon tape..in an emergency situation...I am also wondering about the super glue.
