im hunting red deer in oz. stand hunting is not as popular here as in the states. i have a spot suitable for a couple of stands. one where 2 gullies merge on a track to water, the other close to the water.
q; considering i must climb the tree to build a stand how high need i hang or build a platform to be effective?
2. i bought some realtree hardwood 3d camo recently. is the dye impregnated with uv?
hang em (how) high?
theres no uv brighteners in any camo clothing i dont think. for the stand height id say 15ft is good enough most times. but, the higher you are the easier it is for you to go undetected by deer because your scent will likely pass over them and they dont look up very often.
the highest ive been is around 20ft but it seemed too high to me.

Having never seen or hunted red deer it's hard to answer, but for most whitetail deer probably around 15 feet would be good. A lot depends on terrain and cover. I have stands as low as 10 feet to take advantage of natural cover behind me, and stands as high as 20 feet where cover is poor. If there is no cover behind you to break up your outline, higher is better as it gets you above the area they normally look for danger in.

bluey I deal with hot weather in early season bow huntin and this year its hot today 77. I have a bugtamer suit that keeps the mosquitos away..I dip it into the creek and then put it on. It keeps me real cool walkin in the heat..just an idea for ya...

hunt your way into your stand very slowly and quietly. this should help with the sweating some.wind is an important consideration and also in gullies a 15 foot high stand may not be above nearby ground level. i recently sat on the ground and was 30+- feet from a 12 foot stand placed by the previous land owner, and watched a doe walk down hill from a point that was actually higher than the stand or me. but the wind was in my favor. hope this helps.
