Thanks for all the replies and such greetings from this forum!
For a a universal powerful well priced crossbow, Excalibur is definitely up there. I was amazed with the lbs/draw weight, and almost 17in power stroke
However, as discussed earlier, some of these lower 150 175lbs compound crossbows(never really a fan, always preferred single string,) with reduced cocking effort, but due to limb design/technology with blazing FPS, like the Stryker(mentioned earlier on the forum) yet can produce 400fps+? So would that mean even with lower draw weight/power stroke, the FPS is all that matters to make a powerful/more kinetic energy crossbow? or is it just really better for long range?
Thats a decent pic above, also goggled this for Excalibur Exomax power!
Unfortunately, couldn't find phone book penetration pics to compare to by barnett wildcat. If anyone isn't too troubled, I can paypal 10USD just to test their exomax, only one shot =)
Not really a hunter, nor much of a firearm fan, just admire the the sheer power of a weapon that was once quite primitive!
Happy huntin, cheers

Welcome to the forum, just read your thread. I had a Barnett Commando, believe it was 150 or 175#'s but a recurve not a compound. Took a few deer w/ it from 15' to 15 yds, terribly under powered compared to todays bows, especially the Emax, which I also owned and loved.
I sold it because I didn't need all that power which comes at a price. As for:
Get em close and give em a dose, lol. Have fun!
ps don't shoot a 1000 page phonebook w/ an Emax, your arrow will be kaput.

I think you'll find that the Emax guys on here don't shoot deer much farther than any of the other Excal bows. On a forum this size there are a few, but they are experts w/ their equipment and can squeeze a few more yards than average out of them.or is it just really better for long range?

I like the power because it gives me a better trajectory. It doesn't really extend my range over what I can confidently shoot with my Vixen. However, I do like the ability to shoot heavier set-ups, which I wouldn't even consider with my Vixen because of the trajectory issues.
Trajectory is a big issue with stalkers, which I am. When I am constantly "guessing" yardages, being able to shoot flat simply gives me more confidence.
As I age, I'm spending more and more time in a blind . . .so, it's becoming less of an issue.
I also like shooting lite arrows out fo the Max . . .there's just something exciting about how the arrow seems to disappear on it's way to the target.

I'd rather wear out than rust out.

I had a Barnet Wildcat about 30 years ago. Bought it at Woolco (old time Canadian Dept. Store). I could cock it by putting the butt on my chest and pulling back....Not going to do that with ANY Excalibur.
I've owned a Exocet200 and now a Exomax, my son owns a Vortex. Alll great bows, you'll need a cocking aid with any of them for proper consistant cocknig/string alignment.
Something to consider when deciding if you want to go with the big daddies of Excalibur (Exomax and Equinox) is your height and strength. That extra 25 pounds and 1 inch of pull can be hard if you're not overly tall in stature especially if you're going to be using it for target shooting where you'll be cocking the bow repeatedly.
