Tempting dozen pounds of meat and even I could drag it but unless they are way overpopulated or a winter like last years in northern Mi. they get a pass.Have tried a quarter off a road hit and it is fine but unless my stomach is stuck to my spine they can keep on.
After a fantastic 2012 last years deer sightings were the same two deer three times. A small for age yearling and her bizarre fawn. Chunky, chocolate almost dark, and hairy as a shetland pony. A friend seen them too. Hoping to see it this coming season to see what it looks like.

I would pass. Winters here are not so bad so it would have a pretty good chance of survival. Besides, if they got spots it's illegal here anyways. I've passed on does with fawns tagging along, just didnt have the heart to shoot momma in front of the kids

Re: Just Couldn't Do It...What Would You Do?
Thanks for all the replies....good discussion.
This situation is a bit different as we are hunting this property to get rid of "nuisance" deer that are causing crop damage, and then donating the meat to food shelters. That is the only reason I would consider shooting this deer. Winters here aren't too much of an issue. On this side of the state we don't get much snow - none that stays for more than a day or two - so that's not a concern. I know there are more deer around...I just don't know where they went
When I shot the doe I was talking about, there was a group of 4. Haven't see anything since then except this little one, so I'm not sure this w=one was in the group or not. Anyway, it's been a great start to the season. 2 down and at least seeing deer - within range - on almost every sit. I cannot complain about that.
