I'd hate to loose a deer, my very first deer at that if I see one
Other than the problems inherent with mechanicals, you have nothing to worry about, your Vixen is faster and has more KE then most vertical compounds. So if they can use them, you can too.

I shoot the Relayer which is 150lb bow just like yours only is the first model excal and single limb. 150lb bow has more than enough KE for passthroughs on deer as long as you do not hit any solid bones like in the shoulder, thus any head would not give you enough for a passthrough.

In your case, you need not change heads unless you choose to do so because of a lack of power, unless you deceide to only as a personal choice. If your happy with the 100gr spitfire (same as I use), I would continue with them and enjoy my hunting time.

Good luck.

LOWKEY,

I've shot and hunted with the Spitfires for about 3 years with my Paradox, yes my Paradox, and with 100% success rate I might add. I' ve shot 8 or 9 deer with that head in that 3 years and I recovered each and everyone of them deer. And furthermore, none of them deer went farther than 40 yards.

There was only one time I had a problem with the Spitfires, and that's when one of the blades caught a small limb which opened one of the blades and sent my bolt cart-wheeling over the deer's back.

I'm not saying the arrow flight would not have been affected if I were shooting fixed blades, as I mentioned I did hit a limb so I don't think the fixed head would have done any better. However, I did switch back to fixed heads after that experience.

As was mentioned, the Spitfires will shoot great out of your Vixen, as long as you make sure to have brand new retainer clips you won't have a problem.

P.S. I have a few bear hunters who shoot and hunt with nothing but the Spitfire out of their crossbows. I've yet to not recover a bear that was stung by the Spitfire mechanical head. And they do make HUGE entry/exit wounds which result in great bloodtrails even a blind man could follow.

Good Hunting!

I decided for now, to go with Thunderheads.

Here's the whole shebang. Another month or so and I think I'll put the Varizone on it.
