Look what Santa brought! Well, the postman actually!
Well guys, my parcel arrived today from BJ, and everything looks great. The Hat came with it, and was a nice surprise! What a great service, and excellent price. I wanted to assemble it all right away, but my wife persuaded me to wait till we get down East to our new home. sensible really...it takes up less room whilst unassembled and in the box.
I got advice and oppinions from a number of guys on the forum before making my choice of bow, and I want to thank you all for your help. I look forward to getting started in a few weeks time, and to sharing views and a few laughs on this excellent forum.

grizzled, I see from the post in the pic thread you mentionned you were moving to New Brunswick... I really don't mean to discourage you but the crossbow isn't recognized as a legal hunting tool in that Province, along with the Provinces of Nova-Scotia, Newfoundland and Yukon Territory.... Sorry for breaking them news to you...

Here's a list of the Canadian Provinces which allow the crossbow.

ALBERTA
Permitted for use by the Physically Challenged during archery season, and during Rifle season only

BRITISH COLUMBIA
Permitted during all archery seasons, considered archery equipment

MANITOBA
Permitted for use by the Physically Challenged during archery season, and during Rifle season only

Not recognized as a legal hunting weapon

NORTHWEST-TERRITORIES

Well that is a bit of a shock to me. I enquired with the powers that be over there about varmin control and possible hunting on my own land, and they said it would be ok to control the varmin...except for deer & moose, and that I didn't need a licence for a crossbow. If I wanted to hunt I would have to get a hunting licence, which means I would have to do the relevant course etc. Nothing was mentioned about not being able to use a crossbow!? Anyway, I will be able to use it on my land according to them...that I have in writing from the enforcement guys.
Suppose I'll have to wait and see...but I will have fun anyway. I certainly don't want trouble with the authorities, that's why I contacted them.

I got a call back from our enforcement guys after I e-mailed you this morning. If you are controlling varmints on your own land, they tell me you don't require a licence. And...you can dispatch just about any critter that bothers you, with the exception of deer and moose. You can also fire within 200 or 400 meters of your own house, but should obviously use a fire-arm with proper care and respect.
You can use a rim-fire or centre-fire rifle of less than .23 calibre...a muzzle loader...a shotgun with lead shot no larger that size BB or steel shot no larger than size F...or...a bow.

This is a copy of the last mail I received from authorities! It looks as if I will at least be able to shoot my bow at something...if only a target!
