I just made a deal with BJ, and got rid of my Max, and got a new Phoenix.
I was using 2219 XX75's, (ten point) but would like to speed up the new Phoenix a bit. I think the bow will be a great shooter, but I have a few bugs to iron out. With the 2219's, I only had to raise my scope setting up about 2" compared to the Max. I have a Horton scope, and sighted in the same way as the Max, my Phoenix with the 20 yd (main crosshair) dead on, the 30 yd crosshair, hits dead on, the 40 yd crosshair, hits 8" high, and lasered, 48 yds, the 40 yd crosshair, is dead on. I would not shoot 48 yds, but holding the 40 crosshair on the spine, drops it right into the goodies on my cardboard target. Just to let folks know, the Phoenix does not give up all that much, to the Max I traded. Zero with the 40 yd crosshair with the Max, was 53 yds with the same bolt. I'd like to know what the rest of you are shooting out of your Phoenix's? I killed my first crossbow deer, last year with a horton, and my second crossbow deer with an Excalibur this year with the Max, and am kind of sorry now I got rid of it. It really hit the deer hard, but #1, was illegal (which I did not know when I purchased it) as we have a poundage limit in Pa., and #2, I could not draw it out of my treestand. I think I made a good choice in bows, but just don't know as of yet. It is much easier to cock, being I'm short, but the speed, was just unbelievable out of the Max. Should I shoot the same bolts, or try some carbon or lighter shafts? I noticed I could cut my shafts to about 19", and still be at the front of the bow. This I may do, but how much does 2" of aluminium weigh? Is it worth the trouble? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Butcher

Dont know if I can answer all your questions Butcher but I can tell you what Im shootin out of my Phoenix. I shoot the gold tip lasers that came with the assessory kit. Thay weigh in at about 160 grains. 20 inch and shoot a 100 grain broadhead. I shot my deer at 22 yards and he went 35 yards, Hit him really hard. I am zeroed between 10 and 40 yards on the middle 0 on the 300 number of the varizone scope. I didnt even try it at 50 cause I will never even consider a shot like that and and my ground starts to run up hill real bad from my shooting place at that yardage anyway. Hope this helps.
Shooting GoldTips with brass inserts or 2216s which are similar in weight (18" arrows weigh in at about 280 - 290 grains which gives me 380 - 390 with 100 grain points. Getting very close to 300 fps and using the factory sights which are sighted in at 20 yards. Out to 30 yards the arrows would be well within the kill zone for deer.

Phoenix
I've been trying various combinations with adapting my old compound arrows to my new Phoenix. I'm still experimenting, but this combo seems pretty good: 2016 Easten shafts cut to 18", with aluminum inserts, Bohning Blazer vanes (2"), and 100 gr. field points with a 5 gr. washer. I grind down the rear insert to get to exactly 350 grains (measured on a powder scale). FOC is about 11%. My Shooting Chroney gives me average velocity at 1 yard of 307 fps. That gives me about 73 lbs. KE "at the muzzle". I shoot about 3" groups or better at 40 yards with a scope. Brace height is right on the forward mark. I have not yet tried my Slick Trick BH's with this combination, but the Slicks have worked well with other bolts. My next little experiment is to put the Chroney in front of the target and shoot through it to see what my actual terminal velocity is at 40 yards! Boy, is this fun!!!
I am shooting laser II's with feathers instead of plastic and am getting 298 fps and was worried if this was fast enough until I shot my first deer-at 22 yards he never knew what hit him,I also traded a exomax for the phoenix and I have no problem cocking it in the tree and beleive me I dont think you need any thing more powerful than this for whitetail sized game oh yeah Iam using aluminum front inserts also with 100 grain slicks.
