O/T.. New muzzleloader scope choice

Post by schnarrfuss »

Just picked up a new T/C Triumph with the camo stock and weathershield finish and love it. I am trying to decide which scope to put on it. I have a Bushnell Trophy 3-9X40 and a 2-7X32. Plan on using it for moose hunting this fall as well as our controlled M.L. hunt for deer. Any help or opinions to help my decision.

I am a big Bushnell fan, sounds like your on the right track.
Also, sounds like a nice gun, post a picture if you get a chance.

i just ordered the omega nikon BDC scope.. they sell for 200-214 on ebay compared to 249-279 in most stores

question for the T/C guys, espically the pro hunter/encore folks.. what type of mounts do you need for the scope? Do you have to buy a rail to mount to the gun and then rings to mount to that rail? I noticed they are to close to just use rings so im guessing its some type of rail you have to buy first?

From the T/C catalog page 74:
No.7429 MAXIMA™ BASE, ENCORE & OMEGA, 1 PC. MATTE BLUED
No.9911 MAXIMA™ BASE, ENCORE & OMEGA, 1 PC. HARDWOODS CAMO

I found mine at WalMart last year.

T/C Catalog pdf file, about 85MB.

schnarrfuss, I would choose whichever scope that is the clearest and most comfortable for you. My failing eyes need all the extra magnification that they can get.

Crazyfarmer, I use a Maxima base and Warren QD rings. The qd rings were nice when I was shooting Triple 7 . I could take the scope off while cleaning but since I have gone to Blackhorn 209, the scope can stay on, just run a patch soaked with solvent followed by couple of oil patches down her and she's good to go.
God Bless !!!!!!!!!

I had a similar predicament with 2 Bushnell Elite scopes. I now have a 2-7X32 on my Savage muzzle loader, and find that it suits my hunting needs perfectly. Like you, I was torn between a 3-10X40 and the 2-7X32. I ended up putting the 3-10X40 onto my Tikka moose rifle. I am pleased with both set ups now, and was fortunate enought to harvest an animal with each last year.

I have the Encore.
I got a single rail from Gander Mountain and rings from wal mart.
They do make a one peice from dead nutz and you can get two peice as well.
I need to put a slip on recoil pad on mine to increse the LOP,the scope wont go any farther forward and I am so tall that I need more length.

I like my Nikon Omega BDC,I sighted it in with 150grm charge and 250grn Shockwave like it reccomends, recoil isn't that bad.

Thanks for all the replies. Crazyfarmer, let me know how you like that scope. I have been looking at that one as well, but it is a little pricey for me.

so far so good.. quality seems top notch which it should be for the price. I paid 200 bucks new for mine with warranty on ebay;) I went to a local store and bought the T/C rail and some millet high rings. I tried the medium profile rings but the hammer was still a PITA to cock(even with the swing hammer). The high gave just enough clearance to get my thumb on the hammer good. Anyone else have those probs with the encore models and low/med rings?

I have yet to shoot with the scope. Ill probably try a few shots this weekend just to make sure everything is in working order

only thing I would preferr is a 44mm objective over the 40 to let more light in, but im hoping the quality of the nikons 40 will rival cheaper scopes 44mm ones LOL
