QUESTIONS FROM A NEWGUY

Post by seabreeze133 »

My grand daughters husband insists I get a crossbow and put the rifle/handguns down so I can hunt w/him.So I have some questions.

1 - Do the crossbows come w/good iron sights that are adequate for crossbows ? That may not be the correct terminology, so pls forgive an old match rifle shooter. :o)

2 - I like the recurve concept cause it's simple and less stuff to break. It appears I can change strings in the field if necesary.

3 - On firearm scopes there is a paralax setting. What is it on crossbow scopes?

4 - I like red dots for short range and have a few. No paralax issues. Are crossbows hard on scopes/red dots?

5 - Any suggestions on minimum velocity for penetration on bambi?
Thanks

Don, parallax is a very much misunderstood concept and is not an issue at short range.

The Vixen is responsible for taking an Ontario record moose so no worries there.
As far as the standard sights go they are ok but in low light I much prefer a good scope.

Don,

Boo answered your question about the parallex. I agree with him about the sights that come with an excal bow. Scope is better (depending on your eyes and on the light). I have used a red dot without any problems altho have now gone to a Hawk scope. I liked the red dots because they are small and compact.

Yes you could change a string in the field with the excal recurve.

You said you were going to hunt deer. The lowest poundage excal is 150 ibs (the Vixen) and there are many members on this forum who use a vixen for deer, including me.

Welcome to the forum.

Use a Vixen to hunt deer with ? Surely you jest! Really is there any other model to use except it or the older E'cet 165. Ppl. are so over Bowed, maybe bowled over  Peep sites were great 10 yrs ago when me eyes could focus then the red Dots went this yr. Scopes are the way! Min fps about 150 on up should do the job fer you!
