We all need or at least I need a reminder now and again!!

Glade to hear you weren't seriously hurt.

But now , what board head did you use and how did it hold up against your toe?

Yep, that'd be an eye opener. Might even make your eyes water  I think xbow hunting has more things that can bite you than any other kind of hunting...gotta always be in your "A" game.

You are not alone in doing this, I did the very same thing only I reached down and broke the carbon bolt with my right hand. Good thing they snap pretty easily. I had just came out of the woods hunting and was talking to some family members and totally got distracted. It can happen!! Glad you didn't get injured.

A wiser source than me said it well-- "Pride cometh before a fall."

I haven't dry fired or put my foot into the stirrup with an arrow still in place. I don't say this as bragging. My bow's power scares me. What you described scares me even more.

That's the only safe attitude to have with a device such as ours. We should be confident of its lethality and accuracy, but have a healthy fear of it. When our thinking gets relaxed, that's when things get more dangerous.

Thanks for posting. Good Luck with your remaining hunt.

nothing funny about it!

glad it wasnt worse for you!!
I agree CF . . .longer broadhead or a longer shaft(22") and it's not an issue.

strum . . .That could of, and has turned out a lot worse. Glad you are OK.

If it can go wrong, I have done it, including the hole in the boot. I have a pair of rubber boots with a perfect entry hole from a Slick Trick, fortunately I felt it and stopped before it drew blood.
I remember the hardest part was getting the string back up, hands were obviously busy with the bow, foot was stuck in the stirrup.. I think I ended up breaking the arrow to free my foolish self.
I don't look at it as being accident prone or careless, I hunt every day of the season, mostly twice each day, so the odds are not in my favor. :D

I took an arrow out before i did that last year but i did do something wrong and the bow flipped and hurt my hand.
That was on a saturday afternoon and i should have shot my crossbow to check to see if it was off but i didnt ...on monday i missed a nice buck and when i rechecked my crossbow it was so far off it wasnt funny
I now take 3 broadheads and 1 feildpoint to shoot in my bag instead of uncocking...that exomax is a little to strong

Don't feel bad...it happened to me in the daylight right after I put on a top mounted quiver holder that obscured my view of the broadhead.

Good new is that I was wearing steel toes...the bad news was that I let it down far enough that the carbon bolt cracked...I was lucky that time...

Accidents do happen ! One of my good buddies had his left thumb up above the rail. The string hit his thumb. The Exomax turned his thumb purple in about two seconds. He could feel his heart beating in his thumb for three days. The most painful days he has ever had ! Outch !

i did that about 3 years ago with a friends horton,,felt like a hammer ..i think im a fast learner..
I learned how to smack my thumb..then i learned how to ruin some limbs with a dry fire..then i learned how to shoot my foot..yesterday i learned how to drop my rope before climing down..had to strap my CB to my climber..
now if i can just find a deer who learns as fast as me,,hmm
