For those anxious to join the illustrious DryFire Club - interaction with the witnesses can cause the distraction which can lead to a dryfire. We've found this to be the case with joking around while shooting 3D - easy to get chatting and forget. Phone calls can do it too.
Apparently attending Boofest can also increase the odds in favour of a dryfire.

Congrats Mr. President!!!!! You now preside over the P.A.D. club. (projectile absent discharge) It's a right of passage thing you know.
I haven't had any trouble with finding my string after a dryfire as it was wrapped around my head! Twice!!!!! Drew blood the second time
Enjoy your new position,
Hoagy
aaaaahhh! did this to mine! 3rd year I had an x-bow and finally dry fired it. checked it over good, everything seemed ok. I have shot at least 50+ shots since that happened. after reading this I went and checked my limbs, and sure enough, the right limb, bottom, about 3" from where it is attached, I have a sliver about an inch long! less than 1/8" wide now what?? am I screwed?

I simply broke the limb sliver off my limb and kept shooting. Mine is on the left limb about 3" out also on the inside top about 2" long and 1/8" wide. I keep thinking about getting the limbs replaced but it shoots the same so I keep putting it off.
Been there done that. Distracted shooting, be it neighbor or cell phone, is the NO1 cause of dryfires...a close second is a loose nut behind the trigger.
