--->Long Read!
At 0400hrs my alarm goes off this morning. I get up and get ready to go. At the table dad and I are talking about what could happen this morning. Let me tell you that today is opening day with the rifles here on Ft. Stewart. Anyways, he tells me that if this cow horn spike comes in that I need to smoke him because he is almost a 4 year old deer. So I just look at him and said that if any buck comes in to range, it's going down. I have never killed a buck with a bow before.
We get the truck loaded up and we head to the woods. I drop dad off at where he is going to hunt, and I take the truck down the road to a stand I love to hunt. I get out the truck, get all my stuff together and start walking to my stand. Well somewhere along the way I get messed up, turned around, and I have no idea where I am at this point. So I take out my big light and I see abunch of live oaks right in front of me. What do I do? I look for a climbing tree right there and go up a tree; not knowing what this spot is going too look like come day light. As the sun comes up I can see that it is pretty thick, but right there in front of me was all the live oaks over a little watering hole. So that is where I really kept watching.
About an hour passes and I am looking behind because the squirrels were making a racket. When I go too look back in front of me, I see a deer! The next thing I see as I am reaching for my Axiom is horns. I didn't even bother to look at points or how big, I was just excited that I have an opportunity to kill a buck finally with my bow. So he causally walks across the watering hole and comes within 20yds. I get down on my scope, put my 20yd pin on his shoulder and let him have it! He does this crazy cow kick, tail down and takes off. As he is running I can clearly see blood coming out his shoulder and struggling to run on it. I loose him when he hits the thicket, and what seem like forever I hear him crash.
I call my dad and he tells to stay in the tree because it was not only 0800 hours, but I didn't know where I was so. So around 1000 hours he comes and find me. We get on his blood trail; well more like scavenger hunt due to a not so great blood trail. And about 130 to 150 yards later we find my deer. Along with my bloody and now broken arrow. The arrow went in through his shoulder and out his sternum.
For my morning starting off very rough, it ended on a very high note! I was finally able to get the monkey off my back, and I can now say I have killed a buck with my bow!
In the pictures it looks like he was hit in the back, but that is just from him laying there in his blood.
