Insert glue survey
I was curious of what you guys use for insert glue my go to has always been a clean bath with a q tip with a product called acrosol its just a degreaser used for automotive use and dow 2 part "slow epoxy " never had an issue unless I stuck a tree.
I sometimes use a hot melt stick it works well holding a graphite fishing rod tip on. Never really had a problem with that holding either ...but the melting part is a pia.
I'm curious about the gorilla glue seems so easy

Re: Insert glue survey
I’ve always used Bohning insert iron so far no problems. Whatever Black Eagle uses is good I’ve never had any problems with factory arrows and I know I’ve tried to get the inserts out of some of the Proflight’s I have and didn’t have any luck getting the inserts out so whatever Black Eagle uses will be my next purchase on insert glue.

Gorilla glue blue top. New bottle every time.
I recently picked up some green top in smaller tubes to try, it's the same, just gel formula

Re: Insert glue survey
I have used Majic patch hot melt , A rubber made for patching waders, boots ect for the last 40 years.
Heat to melting apply to nock, push in with a twist then let cool and scrape off the excess .
To remove heat in steam or boiling waster and pull out.

Krazy Glue. I've never had one come out. Of course, I've never been able to get one back out afterwards either. If you ever want to get them back out, this is NOT the product to use.

Re: Insert glue survey
That has to get expensive. I have been using the same bottle of Gorilla Blue Top glue for several years now and have not had any inserts pull or vanes come loose.

Re: Insert glue survey
Glue is cheap I can afford a couple bucks the few times a year I make some arrows, and I almost always leave it on my dashboard, or forget to put the cap on.
I also have two young kids that break everything so I go through it pretty quickly
Cyanoacrylate looses it's "fast grab" characteristics very quickly, 1 month. It has a shelf life of 1 year unopened. And trust me when I say, it goes bad fast. That's why we retail it as a fast grab item.

Re: Insert glue survey
I use JB Weld two part epoxy for inserts and AAE fast set gel for vanes. Seems to work great for me.
It’s not the way you rock, it’s the way that you roll!
Re: Insert glue survey
This is very true, and true to a lesser extent of epoxies as well. To extend their life, always store your adhesives in the refrigerator—if your wife will let you, that is.janesy wrote: ↑Mon Sep 27, 2021 12:47 pmGlue is cheap I can afford a couple bucks the few times a year I make some arrows, and I almost always leave it on my dashboard, or forget to put the cap on.

….. I’ve used rubber glue which you heat up and roll the insert in and apply…. Impervious to temp changes…. “Ain’t lost me an insert since I started rolling me own arras for the last 8 years!”

Re: Insert glue survey
I haven't lost an insert for 10 to 15 years since I learned that surface prep was more important the glue. Just about any glue will work well as long as you take the time to allow the glue to do its work. If any one remembers I came up with the idea of rolling the inserts between 2 axe files. Now I scuff them up with a red 3M pad. Works well!

Re: Insert glue survey
AAE Max Impact (black), paired with Black Eagle aluminum flat nocks. I've shot those arrows dozens of time and almost always use the threaded T-handle to pull arrows. Never lost a nock yet (which happened twice on factory BEE 18"/.001 arrows).
